| What is a TASER® device? |
| A TASER device is a conductive energy device that is a safer use-of-force option for law enforcement, private security, and military. |
Time to Complete Incapacitation: 0.25 seconds. |
Range: 15-35 feet. |
Method of Incapacitation: Electro-physical, involuntary contraction of skeletal muscle tissue. Overrides the motor nervous system, blocking command & control of the human body. Existing stun systems stimulate sensory neurons and can be over-ridden by a focused individual. The TASER EMD devices directly stimulate motor nerve and muscle tissue, causing incapacitation regardless of mental focus, training, size, or drug induced dementia. |
Long term injuries: None. |
Short term injuries: Minor skin irritation and possible skin puncture. |
Data Port Systems:
The TASER X26 stores time, date, duration, temperature & energy cell status of over 1,500 firings. Data accessed through USB into encrypted secure "X26" file format on Windows® PC (Windows® 2000, XP, or ME). |
Sighting System: Ergonomic design used by over 100,000 law enforcement officers. Physical sight on top of weapon for optical alignment. (Front sight post and rear sight posts.) The TASER X26 has 650 nm laser sighted to center top probe grouping at 13 feet plus two super bright LED's for low intensity lights (LIL). |
X26 Power Supply: Digital Power Magazine (DPM) with lithium energy cells and digital memory. 6-volt output, 10-yr shelf life, 195 firings at 25°C. |
Power: X26: 5 watts; 0.36 joules per pulse 2.1 mA average current. |
Training: The TASER EMD non-lethal devices use the same hand motions and muscle memory as standard semi-automatic pistols, drastically reducing the amount of time required to train and increasing accuracy under stress. Recommended law enforcement user training is 4 hours; certified instructor training is 16 hours. All Mount Horeb Police Officers have attended 8 hours of training.

| How does a TASER device work? | |
TASER devices utilize compressed nitrogen to project two small probes up to 15, 21, 25 or 35 feet at a speed of over 160 feet per second. These probes are connected to the TASER device by insulated wire. An electrical signal is transmitted through the wires to where the probes make contact with the body or clothing, resulting in an immediate loss of the person's neuromuscular control and the ability to perform coordinated action for the duration of the impulse. |
| Why use a TASER device? | |
TASER devices save lives. TASER devices are among the safest use-of-force options available today. TASER devices use proprietary technology to safely incapacitate dangerous, combative or high-risk individuals who pose a risk to law enforcement officers, innocent citizens or themselves. TASER devices dramatically reduce injury rates to suspects and officers and increase officer safety and community security. |
| Are TASER devices safe? | |
| Yes. Independent medical and scientific experts have determined TASER devices to be among the safest use-of-force options available. Numerous recent independent studies - including an extensive, multi-million dollar three-year study conducted by the British Associations of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) in consultation with the British Police Scientific Development Branch (PSDB), the British Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL) and the British Defence Scientific Advisory Council Sub-committee on the Medical Implications of Less-lethal Weapons (DOMILL), as well as a U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) study involving approximately 20 medical and research doctors from a dozen academic, government and private institutions - have reaffirmed the overall safety and effectiveness of the TASER life-saving technology. | Can I purchase a TASER? | |
No. Wisconsin is one of only 7 states in the country where it is illegal for private citizens to own an electronic weapon of this type. |
| Who is using TASER devices? | |
| TASER devices are currently in testing or use at over 7,200 law enforcement, military and correctional agencies in the United States and abroad. The TASER X26 is the latest generation of TASER devices. Specifications on all TASER models may be found on Taser’s website, www.TASER.com, under "Our Products." |
