COURT AND CITATIONS
Q: I have been issued a municipal citation as a juvenile and have been ordered to appear in court as a juvenile. Do my parents need to attend court with me?
A: Yes. Either your parent or legal guardian must attend court with you if you are issued a municipal citation. The appearance is required since the municipal judge may want to order you into programs and will discuss matters with your parents or guardians.
Q: What is the difference between a municipal citation and a uniform traffic citation?
A: A municipal citation is a summons to appear in municipal court and it is used as a charging tool for ordinance violations. These violations have nothing to do with a traffic offense and usually do not appear on your driving record. However, if you are convicted of a drug related offense or an underage liquor violation, these convictions will reflect on your driver's record as a confidential entry.
Q: I have been issued a traffic citation, but never have been issued a driver's license. What will happen?
A: Upon the court issuing a conviction on a traffic offense, the department of transportation will be notified of the conviction and they will assign and generate you a driver's license number in the State of Wisconsin.
Q: The court has ordered a driver's license suspension in my case. I have never had a driver's license. What happens?
A: The court will notify the department of transportation and you will be assigned a driver's license number. The order of suspension/revocation will be ordered and upon you obtaining a driver's license, the order will take effect.
Q: The court has ordered me to pay a forfeiture. I have not been able to make the payment as ordered. What do I do?
A: You must contact the court immediately and work out a payment arrangement. The court may be reached at 608-437-7748. The police department cannot help you in this matter.
Q: Can the municipal court sentence me to a jail term?
A: The municipal court cannot sentence you to a jail term for violation of a village ordinance. However, if you fail to pay a forfeiture, the court can impose a jail term for failing to pay the forfeiture. It is best to keep in contact with the court and never allow yourself to be placed into this position.
Q: What is the mailing address for the municipal court?
A:
138 East Main Street
Mount Horeb, Wisconsin 53572
Phone: 608-437-7748
Fax: 608-437-3190

Q: Do you have an equine unit and what do they do?
A: We do have an equine unit that consists of two members - Jim Schultz and Anne Murphy. They are on duty at special events such as ball games and the Mount Horeb Summer Frolic for crowd control, etc. They regularly work the UW Madison football games and have assisted the La Crosse Police Department with Octoberfest. Q: I reported a crime and never heard anything from the police department. Why?
A: We understand that your reported crime is important to you and know that as a victim of a crime you feel frustrated. We try to let everyone know the status of their case as soon as possible. There are crimes such as person crimes that must be given priority by the investigative staff. Your case is not forgotten and is being investigated. PARKING TICKET
Q: I have been issued a parking ticket and wish to contest it. The citation says the amount due will increase if I do not pay it within 48 hours. What do I do?
A: Contact the police department and provide the citation number and the 48 hour time limit will be waived. You will be asked to provide a written response as to why you want to contest the citation. A decision will be made and if the citation is not dismissed, you may either pay it at this time or ask that it be sent to the municipal court for review.
